The silence in the park was unnerving. Despite the sunlight, a shadow seemed to cling to her, wrapping her in a thin, cold veil. She repeatedly checked the pockets of her jacket.

Each rustle of leaves in the breeze, she jerked her head, expecting a greeting, a hug, a shout. Nothing.

Her fingernails dug into the palm of her hand. She thought the person who organized it all would give her some kind of information before the appointed time.

She spotted a dog walker in the distance, and the slight movement made her heart leap up into her throat.
